Truman Capote (September 30, 1924 – August 25, 1984) was an American author, many of whose short stories, novels, plays and nonfiction are recognized literary classics, including the novella Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1958) and In Cold Blood (1965), which he labeled a “nonfiction novel.”

It’s hard to believe that we overlooked Truman Capote when we were featuring famous homosexuals. Perhaps his record was hidden at that time. Nevertheless, it’s good to know that he has finally been dunked into the club. Disappointing, however that none of his other saving ordinances have been performed.

Eric Lynn Wright (September 7, 1963 – March 26, 1995), better known by his stage name Eazy-E, was an American rapper, producer, and record executive from Compton, California. Eric dropped out of high school in the tenth grade and supported himself by selling drugs. His profits were used to co-found Ruthless Records.

Our coverage of rap legends has been sadly lacking. As we’ve said before, nothing says ‘potential mormon’ like the life of a gangsta rapper who started his life selling drugs and ended it dying of AIDS. It’s good to see that mormons still care about the rappers. Easy was endowed two days after the church announced that their new system would prevent baptisms of holocaust victims and celebrities. So, it’s good to see that system is working.

Candy Barr (July 6, 1935 – December 30, 2005) was an American stripper, burlesque exotic dancer, actress in one pornographic movie, and model in men’s magazines of the mid-20th century.

Born Juanita Dale Slusher in Edna, Texas, the youngest of five children, at age 16, she appeared in one of the first pornographic movies, Smart Alec (1951). Later, Barr established herself in burlesque and striptease with her trademark costume—cowboy hat, pasties, scant panties, a pair of pearl handled cap six-shooters in a holster strapped low on her shapely hips, and cowboy boots. Married three times, and widowed once when she shot her second husband, she was also involved with Jack Ruby and Mickey Cohen. Later in her life, she was honored by Texas Monthly as one history’s “perfect Texans”, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Exotic World Burlesque Museum.

We hadn’t intended to feature any more strippers, but found that we have a sweet tooth and cannot resist Candy.

Charles Taze Russell (February 16, 1852 – October 31, 1916), or Pastor Russell, was a prominent early 20th century Christian Restorationist minister from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA and founder of what is now known as the Bible Student movement, from which Jehovah’s Witnesses and numerous independent Bible Student groups emerged.

It seems that Pastor Russell might be relieved to be baptized a mormon, since the 4 or 5 times he predicted the second coming of Christ never came to pass. He would certainly be more secure in his salvation now that he has been baptized twice by mormons, seeking to rescue his soul.

Josephine Baker (June 3, 1906 – April 12, 1975) was an American expatriate singer, dancer and actress, who had performed as a chorus girl on Broadway and toured the United States before she traveled to Paris to open her show La Revue Nègre .

The show gained notoriety for Baker’s erotic, near nude dancing. She performed her captivating Danse Sauvage dressed in nothing but a feather skirt and the most iconic image of Baker, naked but for a skirt made from bananas comes from this act.

In 1937, Baker became a French citizen. She assisted with the French World War Two effort by corresponding with the French Resistance, serving as a sub-lieutenant in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, and performing for the troops.
For Josephine Baker stripping opened the door to wealth, fame, opportunity and respect.

Singer, dancer, actress, spy, civil rights activist. But her life was really meaningless until she became a mormon.
