William Frederick “Buffalo Bill” Cody (February 26, 1846 – January 10, 1917) was an American soldier, bison hunter and showman. He was born in the Iowa Territory, near Le Claire. He was one of the most colorful figures of the American Old West, and mostly famous for the shows he organized with cowboy themes. When he was only 11, he joined Johnston’s Army as an unofficial member of the scouts assigned to guide the Army to Utah to put down a rebellion by the Mormon population of Salt Lake City, known as the Utah War.
Mormons love a showman, and so in spite of his involvement in the Utah War, they still love Buffalo Bill. Probably because they also love the Lamanites, or as they like to call them today, “among the principle ancestors of the American Indians”. Buffalo Bill loved the Lamanites too. He even put Sitting Bull in his Wild West show. What a nice guy.
