Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (27 January 1832 – 14 January 1898), better known by the pseudonym Lewis Carroll, was an English author, mathematician, Anglican deacon and a photographer. His most famous writings are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass, as well as the poems “The Hunting of the Snark” and “Jabberwocky”, all examples of the genre of literary nonsense. He is noted for his facility at word play, logic, and fantasy.
It makes complete sense that mormons would claim Lewis Carroll as their own. He was a master of nonsensical stories, just like Joseph Smith was. Smith loved to tell fanciful stories of submarine barges with glass windows and a single drain/ventilation hole. Or how about that story of saving a nation by killing a sleeping drunk. Or that great yarn about that dude Shiz, who had his whole head chopped off, but still lifted up on his hands and gasped for breath. That was a good one. Too bad Lewis Carroll didn’t read Josephs stuff before he started writing. Or maybe he did.
