John Candy

John Franklin Candy (October 31, 1950 – March 4, 1994) was a Canadian-American comedian and actor. He rose to fame as a member of the Toronto, Ontario branch of The Second City. Some of his more renowned on-screen performances were that of Del Griffith in Planes, Trains and Automobiles and the titular role in Uncle Buck.

Sure, John Candy was a warmly regarded comic actor. But if he hadn’t been in SCTV and the movies, would anyone have cared enough about his eternal salvation to research his life and do his saving ordinances. Based on what we see here, probably not. Of the four records available, two have incomplete names, two don’t have a place of birth, and one has confused his death date with his birth date. Oh. And one of the records lists his parents names as Candy and Mrs. Candy. It’s difficult to take mormons seriously in cases like this.
